Altered Mini Hutch...Work In Progress

I couldn't help myself when I saw these super cute wooden hutches at my local Michael's. I picked up four different styles and was super excited to alter them. This piece here is still in progress. I used the paper line DCWV, Chateau Lavender. Painted the edges with acrylic paint. I mixed a few colors to get the color I liked. The knobs are colored with a Copic Marker. Then I distressed all the edges with Tim Holtz, Antique Photo Distress ink. Finished it with Matte Mod Podge. I still want to embellish it with some I Am Roses flowers and maybe some pearls or lace. I am still trying to come up with some verbiage to put on the shelves. I hope you like what I have so far.

Stamp Pad Confusion

Are you often confused about what type of stamp pad, ink, or brand to use? I often am or just plain forget. My stamp pad collection is very small and pretty much only consist of Tim Holtz - Distress Ink Pads.

I came across this great article by Mitch "Der Mad Stamper" at Monkey House Hobby. It has cleared everything up for me and even told me about products that I didn't even know existed. I'm excited about that, cause I just picked up a bunch of Flocking that was on clearance at my local Michael's.

Paisley Ponyz Update:

My progress for Paisley Ponyz is not nearly as quick as I had hoped. February is already half over. Yikes! I have been battling a bug for about 3 weeks now. I am so thankful my 2 year old has not gotten it yet. I am also taking on a small part time job with big potential to turn into something much bigger. Lets not forget that I also applied for the "Extreme Mustang Makeover". I am beside myself waiting to hear if I am accepted.

I started a Valentine version of Paisley, but with so much going on & not feeling 100%, she was put on the back burner. I hope to be able to finish her sketch and post her this afternoon.

My 1st Shabby Chic Altered Projects

This is my 1st attempt at Shabby Chic. I made this dress form from a AJAX dish soap bottle that I picked up at out local Dollar Tree. There are may soap bottles that have nicer shapes, but I thought this would work fine for my 1st attempt.

1st I put paper mache´ over top of the bottle with the pattern paper you see in the background. I didn't care for how it turned out. The patter paper is double sided with a bright reddish-orange on the back side. When I ripped the paper and Modge Pog it down, the red showed through on the edges. So them I proceeded to Modge Pog white tissue paper over it and let it dry. Next I painted the form with a light blue acrylic paint. Let that dry then coated with Tim Holtz Silver Crackle Paint. Once that dried I rubbed some white paint randomly over the form. I figured that was enough messing with the base. I decorated the form with some flowers I got from I Am Roses, trim and glass beads I up at JoAnns. Plus a couple of paper flowers I made. The butterfly I cut out from the pattern paper.

My husbands first comment was, "Man that's Goddy, where are you putting that?" I laughed and told him, "I have no idea. This is just something different for me to try."

I have to admit, I don't think I have the "Shabby Chic" touch, but I had fun anyway.

In my house he does. Let me tell you a little story about my discovery of the Cookie Monster...

This morning I was woken by the sounds of pitter patter and then some grunting. Hummmm....... I barely open my eyes to see Zane my nearly 3 yrs old son, piling 4 of his blankets up in a little mound. He was not aware I was watching him. Then he carefully places his Tigger on top of the mound then quickly crawls off the bed the runs to the other room.

I didn't think much of it, got up, and proceeded to the kitchen to make some coffee to kick start my day of play and house chores. Although it was a little odd that Zane put all of his blankets on my bed. He usually likes to pack around at least one. Again, didn't think much of it.

So as the morning progressed I started to think how cute Zane is and how he loves to take care of his Tigger, making sure he had a nice soft bed. But, wait!, Zane never goes anywhere without Tigger. So I headed to the bedroom to put his blanket mound back on Zane's bed. That is when I seen it...

COOKIES! Oreo's to be exact. Crumbs and broken bits under the blanket mound. I couldn't help but laugh. 2-1/2 years old and already hiding the evidence, or pushing the blame on Tigger. LOL

So as I was pulling the sheets off the bed, I called to Zane, "Is this your cookie?" His reply, "It's ok!"

My Cookie Monster may not be blue, but he is all shades of cuteness!

Paisley - Ready to work colored

This isn't the final version of Paisley, but one of the mock up sketches of this design. I made a few changes to the final sketch. Her eyes needed more work, changed her to have a smile and feet position did quite look right to me. So I thought I would have fun with this one anyway and color it using Copic Markers.

Ribbon Flower Tutorial

Here is a quick photo tutorial I promised on how to make a five petal ribbon flower.

Supplies:
Ribbon
Candle or Lighter
Scissors
Decorative Buttons
Thread
Sewing Needle
Hot Glue Gun

I am using a 5/8"satin ribbon for this tutorial. This maked about an 1-1/2" diameter flower.

A wider ribbon or different type of material ribbon can be used.

Step 1) Cut 5 strips of ribbon 2" long.

2) Melt both cut edges of ribbon with candle or lighter. This seems to work well with synthetic fiber ribbons to keeps it from fraying.

3) Stitch along one of the short ends of the ribbon. Stitches do not need to be even or perfect.

4) Stitch along the 2" length of the ribbon. Again stitches do not need to be perfect.

5) Then stitch along the 2nd short end.

This is what you will end up with. Do not cut thread.

6) Pull stitches tight so that ribbon bunches together.

Repeat steps 3-6 four more times. Do not cut thread between petals.

Sample of all five petals stitched and bunched together.

7) Stitch the last petal to the first petal so that it forms a circle holding taunt, tie knot & trim thread.

8) Sew or hot glue a button to the center of the flower.

Pick out some buttons, beads, bling or what ever you would like for the centers of your flowers. I used some inexpensive decorative buttons.

I am not a big rubber stamp collector. I just don't have the space to store them. But I see so many wonderfully colored stamped images that people have colored using Copic Markers. So I thought I would give Digi Stamps a go. (Digital Stamps)

These are a few of the ideas I have so far. I tried to make her look as similar as possible with the different hair styles. I still have to come up with the body's to these gals. The human figure is most certainly not my specialty, so it's a bit of a slow process. Lots of erasing. Ha Ha.

Home Made Ribbon Flowers

I am still learning to make my own embellishments. I just learned how to make ribbon flowers. These are simple and quick to make. I am all about saving time and money when making things by hand. I hope to come up with some really cute & fun ones with some of the new buttons I picked up the other day.

You have to wonder if it is really worth it to make your own. But I think I can justify making these instead of purchasing. I know it can be discouraging when you are trying to save money to make your own embellishments and they just take up too much time. I am still on the fence when it comes to paper flowers.

Lil Cowgirls

These Lil' Cowgirls are just too adorable.

I am having a lot of fun coloring these Lil' Cowgirls.

These are from the La La Land Stamp - Cowgirl Marci.

COWGIRL #1

Bella Blue - Lil Cowgirl #1

Cowgirl #1, I did with a blue and brown theme with a little accent of red, rhinestones & ribbon.

A little satin ribbon for her hair ties and bow for hat band.

I made these flowers out of ribbon. The sheer ribbon I colored using Glimmer Mist. Embellished the center with a tiny rhinestone flower that came from some tiny hair pins that I wore at my wedding. The satin flower I colored with Glimmer Mist also. When it dried, the tips of the peddles came out darker, or the center dried lighter. Ha Ha. I embellished the center with a mirrored glass half circle. I found these in the Clearance section at Michael's. Kind of bummed this was the only one they had. I also Glimmer Misted the lace and the 1/4" satin ribbon trim with ** Glimmer Mist. Funny how the three ribbons accepted the same color so differently.

Her little Lasso.

This is my first experience with "Divine Twine". I have to say "I LOVE IT"! This is the only color I have thus far. And she can't be a cowgirl without a little bling. Some rhinestones for her belt buckle.

Another Glimmer Mist died satin ribbon flower, embellished with a mirrored glass ball. Plus a few paper flowers I made.

Hello Horse Krazee Friends!!! Here are some glass pearl & glass bead sprays I made. I really like the Aqua, Cream, Bright Green and Deep Chocolate color combinations. I struggled finding the right color wire to use with these colors. I was hoping for the green or brown color. The colored wires were not quite the correct shade of green or brown. I decided to go with copper. I guess you can't go to wrong with copper. Right? Surprisingly, these are very easy to make. I will try and make a photo tutorial and post it soon.

These are all glass beads, even the pearls.

All brown beads are kind of fun.

I bent these ones up with the thought of using this on a card and surrounding them with hand made flowers so you only see the beads scattered throughout.

I really like these crushed glass looking beads. Very sparkly.

I made all these sprays in about 2 hours.

This color combinations is what inspired my blog redesign. I am thinking of trying some new logo ideas in this color combination as well.

What's Changing for 2012

Hello Horse Krazee friends! There will be some changes for Horse Krazee Dezigns in 2012. It will still be just me, but updated. I have decided to drop the "Dezigns" from my name. I also plan on changing my logo. The logo redesign my take awhile, because I haven't decided what to change it to. But it will have more of an artwork look to it, then the cartoon computer generated that it is now. As for the colors, I do like the bright green but that might change too? Turquoise maybe?

I will be making the the name change to my Facebook, but the old link will remain the same. I haven't figured out the work around on that yet. The web page will be going away in August, so odds are I will just leave that how it is. The web addresses : http://horsekrazeedezigns.com & http://horsekrazee.com still work and link to the same place. I will post and email with all the updated links.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful new year thus far.

New Look for 2012

I have finally created my own blog background & header. I struggled with finding something that suited me better with no luck. I spent a day redesigning it myself. I just need to learn to write html code so I can get my blog, webpage, etsy shop and what ever else I might open to look similar. I hope you like the new look. I love feedback.

Starting the New Year with some Bling

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Starting the year off with some bling.

My new year's resolution is to have more Horsey type of projects. Here is my first one for the year, "Smokey Bling". This is a drawing I've done of a little gray Mustang I use to have. Such a sweet horse with lots of character. I drew him using Copic Markers and inked the edges with Tim Holtz ink. I used Copic colors: W1, W3, W5, W7, B000, YR000, 0 Colorless Blender and Black Multiliner.

I made all of the paper flowers & I used Copic colors B000 & YR000 to bring out those colors in the drawing. Added some pearls & jute twine, Glimmer Misted everything on the circle with Pearl mist. Used Martha Stewart border punch to line the bottom of the sentiment bar. Finally all is mounted on 3 layers of card stock, Gloss black, metallic silver and matte black as the base.

Bold, Bright and Blingy

Thought I would try something that is Bold & Bright with some Bling. This card I drew the tree with Copic Markers YG03, YR02, YR04, R08, B000, B02, B14, BG18, V12, V09, RV11, RV29, W3 & 100 Black.

The five flower under the tree & the Thank You tag, I used YR04. I also made all of the other flowers and colored them with Glimmer Mist. Added some bling, stitched the tag with bright green embroidery floss, crochet the bright blue trim with embroidery floss and finished it off with lots and lots of Stickles Glitter.

A year in review since I got my 1st Copic Marker

This year in May, was the first time I picked up a Copic Marker. I am completely hooked on these pens. What I love about these markers is how smooth they cover, how they blend and the amazing effects you can accomplish. So I put together a little photo spread of what I have done with my 1st year using Copic's.

Christmas Ornament Mini

Christmas Cottage

This little Cottage measures in at about 5-1/2"h x 3"w x 3"d. This little ornament would be a great gift for Parents or Grandparents. Fill it with tiny school photos, snapshots or written memories that happened throughout the year. I am hoping to make this a tradition with my family to make every year. I just wish I thought of this last month instead of 5 days before Christmas.

I made a little 3" cube that one side opened.
I made the four sided pyramid and fed a string through the top peak for hanging.
I adhered the pyramid to the top of the cube.
I used a border punch to make shingles.
I drew some windows, a door, holly garland & some lines with my Copic markers on some white card stock. I made the lines about every 1/2", then scored on top of the lines to look like panelling.
Glued on some paper embellishments that I had made that was leftover from some other holiday projects.
Added a brad & hair band for closure.

The pattern paper I used is from Recollections "Happy Holidays" 12 x 12 paper pad. The cute little tree on the front, I got the idea from followingthepapertrail.blogspot.com.

Cottage & Mini

The front of the Cottage opens to reveal the really tiny mini album inside.

The mini album has 7 pages measuring 2-3/4""x 2-1/2" with a pocket on the end of each page to hold a 2-5/8" x 2-3/8" tag.

Candy Cane Cottage with Mini Album

I made this little Sweet Cottage for a Family Gift Exchange.

The Cottage exterior stands about 11.25"h x 7"w x 1.5"d. The box is Constructed for chipboard and card stock. I embellished it with some various flowers that I have made, border punches for trim & roof shingles. The candy cane poles I had to draw the pattern with Copic Markers, since I could not find any candy cane print paper. I mounted the candy cane paper to chipboard, trimmed to 1/2" strips, distressed inked the edges and highlighted with opaque white paint marker. Made the closer with a brad & hair band.

The mini album is a gate fold album that measures 7.5"h x 6"w. Constructed for all card stock. I completely spaced taking photos of the inside of the mini album.

I later added some Stardust Stickle Glitter accents.

Holiday Cookie Box

This project was surprisingly quick to make. I didn't need to put a lot of thought and time into it. Constructing the box took about a total of 2 hours. It measures in at 12"w x 9"h x 2.75"d constructed with some mat board I have had laying around for way too long.

I covered with Recollections Naughty or Nice holiday paper, added some paper hinges covered with ribbon, and embellished with brads. Then filled with Cranberry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies for my hubby's co-workers. I asked him to PLEASE bring home the box.

Triple Chocolate Layered Peppermint Mocha

Recipe

Triple Chocolate Layered Peppermint Hot Cocoa

adapted from my recipes

Recipe makes 1 pint-sized jar

Ingredients:

1/2 cuppowdered milk
1/2 cupunsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cupsugar
1/4teaspoon salt
1/4 cupmini chocolate chips
1/4 cupcrushed peppermint candy baking bits or
1 tablespoon chopped white chocolate
1/4 cupmini marshmallows
* Replace marshmallows with 1/2 cup instant coffee for the
Mocha version

Directions:
Layerthe ingredients, in the order shown, in a pint-sized jar... using just enoughmarshmallows to fill up the jar so the contents don't move around too much whensealed.

"Mix contents well in a largebowl. For each serving, place 1/3 cup cocoa mix in a mug. Add 8ozof boiling water, stir well."

This makes a super rich chocolatey cup of cocoa with a twist of peppermint.

Suggestions:
Tie a ribbon with a fun little tag for the directions. I printed mine on white cover stock and punched them out with a circle punch, inked the edges and adhered to the top of the lid.

Exciting Horsey News

I so excited and thrilled to announce I have officially decided to try out for the Extreme Mustang Makeover. I am excited and nervous at the same time. 90 days is pretty fast for me, but I am up for the challenge. My main goal is not to rush the Mustang to be under saddle, but to make sure they have a very solid foundation. But I do admit, if they are under saddle that would be a great bonus. Safety is the key for the horse, myself & the future owner.

I finally got a round pen. My Black Friday BIG purchase. It's not just any round pen, it's a 6' tall Mustang approved round pen. I just need to finish filling out my application for the makeover. Keep your fingers crossed I get approved.

And if I get approved I will be posting lots of photos, updates and making an album of the experience.

The Challenge: Backgrounds
Create a background using your Copics. Feel free to create any sort of background you would like: mask off the background and stamp it, airbrush, draw it, sponge it, alcohol ink it, spray it, etc. Anything goes as long as you are using Copics on your project.

Here is my piece submission: "Winter Frolic"

I drew this image, then colored it using my Copic Markers. I used the colorless blender to create the dapples on the horse and the snow & squiggly lines in the background of the sky. The squiggly lines in the snow are made using W1 warm gray no.1. I went over some of the snow with an Opaque White Paint Marker.

I distressed the edge of the drawing with Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress ink. Then inked the edge with Copic Marker W9.
I embellished the card with Martha Stewart Snowflake punch, and Fiskars Circle punch. I distressed the edges of the circles & the dark blue metallic boarder paper with my scissors. Added a halter and bow with bakers twine.

How to Make Your Own Glue Dots

So I guess I should have experimented with this before posting it. Hummmmm... I have tried this several times and I can't quite seam to be able to find the best paper to put the adhesive on that will allow you to remove the dots easily. URG... If you have any suggestions or ideas, please share.

Do I have a great tip for you. I learned this from mypinkcricut on YouTube.

All you need is grease resistant paper like freezer or wax paper, scissors and Aleene's Tack-It Over & Over Adhesive.

1. Cut some strips of wax paper.
2. Squeeze a thick amount of adhesive onto the wax paper to the size dots you want.
**Note that I only put the adhesive on half of the wax paper. The thicker the glue is, the easier it is to remove from the paper.

3. Let the adhesive dry over night. Adhesive will dry clear.
4. Once dry fold wax paper in half over exposed adhesive. This will help keep glue dot clean
5. Store in ziplock type bag to help keep glue dot from drying out.

I can't wait to try out the BIG dots I made today for some ribbon flowers.

Holiday Season is here...

I have been busy getting ready for the Holidays. I will be participation in a few White Elephant gift exchanges, so I have been making some Holiday Themed mini albums. I have one finished and a couple more to go.

I finally started my Christmas cards too. Here is a photo of "Holiday Hootie". Can't wait to get him scan and printed for me to start coloring. I plan on coloring him with Copic Markers with some glitter accents and adhere to a colored card stock. I just need to remind myself to keep it simple or I will never get them done.

I have also been learning how to crochet flowers with embroidery floss. I have lots of practice flowers done. Haven't quite found the color combo that I really love. I may have to go pick up a variegated color floss like the ones in CatCrazyCreations videos.

These flowers measure about 1.5 to 2" in diameter.

Meet Tom, Part 2

"Tom", the finished piece.

This drawing is 9" x 12" on Bristol. I spent a lot more time on this piece than I normally do. I think a lot of the extra time is because I used white paper. I normally draw on black paper, so it was challenging for me to feel like I was finished. I just felt like it had too much of the paper showing through the pencil strokes.

I'm pretty excited how the background turned out. I shaded the background with the color pencil then went over it with turpentine and it blended so smooth. I love it. I just might start putting backgrounds on my drawings.

It is a chilly Fall morning here in Oregon. So I think I will spend my morning cleaning. Then paper crafting in the afternoon. Finish with an evening of drawing. I haven't picked up my pencils in nearly 3 months. Shame on me. But I did find a new horse to draw. Regalo de Gran Corazon, Kiger Mustang. What a handsome boy he is too.

I have looked all over trying to find some farm or horse type scrapbooking products. It is so hard to find something that I really liked. So I decided to come up with something of my own. I am so excited to be able to share this idea I have come up with. I worked really hard this weekend at the scrapbook retreat to get this pattern finalized so I could share my 1st mock up with everyone. I am still working on typing up the directions so they are easy to understand with some diagrams that I will eventually have available for purchase.

The main structure of this barn is chip board, then it is covered with patterned papers. The outside of the barn I created the texture by scoring & inking. I still have to finish the mini album inside and add some more embellishments to the outside. I really hope you enjoy looking at this project.

I feel I have gotten my feet wet enough, learning how to make mini albums. So I have decided to design a really fun mini album geared toward the horse community. Yes, finally! That is what I am suppose to be here for, right? Hee Hee. I have been working hard to get this design completed. I will be attending my 1st scrapbooking retreat this weekend with high hopes to get this product finished. I would really LOVE to be able to post some images next week of the finished project and get the pattern/ instructions prepped for purchase.

*A few hints about the piece: It's a Mini Album inside of a Box, plus the title "What's In Your Barn?"

Trip Down Memory Lane

This photo is of me when I was about 9 visiting my grandparents in Hawaii. I remember this swim suite. It was royal blue with bright flowers across the front. That summer my grandparents tried really hard to help me get over my fear of water. They got me a really nice life vest to wear in their swimming pool. If I remember correctly I still was afraid to try swimming and spent most of my pools days sitting on the steps in the shallow end. Now nearly 30 years later, I still am not real fond of swimming.

So I found my self a new craft that I absolutely can not get enough of. Mini Albums!!!! The first on I made was for my Mom and had so much fun I had to make another.

What I have learned with my two albums is that it is much easier to pick out a themed paper stack, than pick a theme and try and find things in that theme. I really struggled finding elements for my Mom's album. Asian, Cherrie Blossoms, Red & Light Blue are next to impossible to find. I ended up making the majority of the embellishments, which in turn made this project go very slow. But, I really do think it came out very nice for my 1st time of making a mini album. I can't wait to give it to her for her Birthday on Aug 22nd.

My sister's album is going going so much faster with the coordinating paper stack. The dragon fly & butterfly embellishments are much easier to find. However the angels are not so much. So I have had to make a few of the angel embellishments. I really wanted the angel theme, since my sister has had a real rough spell this last few months and is lucky to be with us today. So the album is filled with inspirational and encouraging sayings.

Summer is nearly half over and I have so many things to do. Here is a short list of some of the things I have yet to do before Summer is over.

1. Finish my mom's birthday scrapbook. (This is nearly done)
2. Do two horse drawings. One for July & August. (Whoops, I missed my July Drawing.)
3. Start and finish my sister's inspiration birthday scrapbook. (Did I mention her birthday was in July)
4. Sand, primer & paint my rust bucket 3 horse trailer. And rewire it.
5. Finish Zane's Cubby boxes. (I only have one left.)
6. Organize my craft space
7. Finish the trim on all the windows in the house
8. Paint the outside of the house. Ha Ha Ya right. Looks like this will be put off for another year.
This list could go on forever

I really hope that I can at least get through number 4.

Good Morning! I am excited to start this new project. I am taking a little break from drawing and trying some paper crafting. I have been browsing YouTube and seeing some amazing creative projects that people are doing. I have learned some many new techniques and am soooo excited to try them.

I am going to test out all these wonderful techniques on a gift for my mother for her Birthday. Sorry mom, you're going to be my ginny pig and you are going to know what you are getting for your Birthday. I am going to make her a mini album with a Cherry Blossom/ Asian Theme. The colors are a little wild, Red, Aqua/Teal, Paper Bag Brown, Gold & Silver. I may throw in some Black & White too. I got my color pallet inspiration from a little post-it pad.

Below are some of the items I have thrown together to get started. I'm sure I will find more things to add as the project progresses. Most of these items I found in the dollar bins or clearance bins at my local craft stores. Many of the embellishments I will be making myself and from recycled products. One of the items I can't wait to work with is the hand made papers I got at Paper Zone about 5 months ago. I am so excited that I finally have something to create with them. I picked up some spray that is suppose to make paper type products acid free, but I'm not holding my breath on some of these items.

Just Uploaded My 1st Video - DIY Bubble Wrap Stamp

Bubble Wrap Stamp, I have always wanted one. But they are just so darn expensive. This morning when I was going through the mail to recycle. There is was, a bubble padded envelope. My first thought was to jump on it and pop all the bubbles. Yes I still do that. But then I thought, well I should save it for padding some of my crafts for shipping, then I thought, "WAIT". I can use it for my mixed media projects for stamping the background like I have seen so many people do. But then your hands get all covered in ink and I can never get it to look nice without folds in it. Then it dawned on me. Duh Richelle, glue it to a piece of wood so it's flat. Why didn't I think of this before. So here is my 1st video tutorial. Not sure I would call it a tutorial, but it sounds cool! Besides I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of it.

Well I haven't done much for drawing in the past few weeks. Been busy working on the ol' house. Gave the Dining Room, Kitchen & Living Room a little face lift with some new paint colors. Chocolate and Caramel colors. I've also been building some cubbie boxes for my 2 yr old "Zane" room. I have 3 of the 4 built. I am hoping to get some ATC's done while enjoying a nice relaxing weekend in Central Oregon wilderness.

Box is built from old cedar fencing and the doors are 12 x 12 ready made canvas that I painted. I still need to put a back on the boxes. My plan is to hang these on his wall.

Little Less Horsey, Bit More Crafty

Here is a box/suitcase project I have been working on. This little guy measures in at 3.75"T x 3.75W x 2.75D".
I constructed the box out of cardboard form a pancake mix box. Then I wrapped it in book pages and stained it. I also added some colored metal corners, and fasteners. Made the handle out of ink colored vinyl, wrapped with copper and fastened with brads.

The "HAPPY FATHERS DAY" banner inside is die cut out of playing cards then mounted onto card stock that I decorated with different colors and patterns. Then I attached all the cards together with ribbon, with enough space to accordion fold them. They nestle right in the box with lots of extra room to add some trinkets if you wish.

Since this is my 1st attempt at designing this little box, there is plenty of room for improvement. My next one I am hoping to be bigger so a mini scrap book album will fit inside. And of course with a "HORSEY" type of theme. If you want to send me suggestions of some themes... ~ I'd love to hear from you!

These trading cards are a lot simpler and faster to produce, but I think I like the results of the ATC cards I spent a lot more time on. I really do like drawing horses. These tiny little horses in these ones are more like little black blobs. LOL.

All four of these trading cards are done with Golden Liquid Acrylics on card stock with rounded corners.

ATC #001 "Itch worth scratchin"
Color Pencil on Black Gesso covered card stock, applied a coat of Gloss Fixative.

ATC #002 "Tiara"
Colored Pencil on Book page adhered to card stock with a light cover of White Gesso. Accented with White Opaque Marker, sanded so lettering shows through. Applied a coat of Gloss Fixative.

ATC #003 "Gracie"
Colored Pencil on Black Gesso covered card stock. Highlighted with White Opaque Marker. Applied a coat of Gloss Fixative.

ATC #004 "Palomino"
Markers, Colored pencil and White Opaque Marker on White Gesso covered card stock. Sanded edges and applied a coat of Gloss Fixative.

ATC #005 "Mustang"
Markers, Colored pencil and White Opaque Marker on White Gesso covered card stock. Sanded edges and applied a coat of Gloss Fixative.

These trading cards are a lot of fun to mess around with. I am enjoying trying new medias. Finding out what works & what doesn't. Alcohol based markers definitely do not work well on the gesso surface. The gesso comes off and sticks to the marker tips. The color pencil will show any imperfections on the gesso surface, but is workable. I may just have to cut down some of my favorite drawing papers for these techniques. My next media I am planning to try in June is both Acrylic & Acrylic Liquids.

Here are phases of another Palomino that I have drawn in a new media for me. My 1st attempt using Copic Markers. I also added detail with colored pencil and an opaque white marking pen. The paper is out of a 8 x 5.5" Bristol board journal.

Artist Trading Card #3. This version of "Gracie" is a very quick drawing. About 45 minutes compared to the 12 hours to complete the original 8 x 10 drawing.

The materials I used for this trading card is, Prismacolor soft core pencils and Recollections opaque white marker. The stock is a 100# Card stock coated with black gesso. I will be putting on a thin layer of gloss fixative.

I've accumulated tons of scrap cards stocks when I worked in the printing industry for 14 years. I have a very large horizontal 4 drawer filing cabinet filled with all kinds of random papers. Might as well make use of them and make trading cards.

Base is a page from an old Black Beauty Book glued to a piece of card stock, with a thin layer of white gesso. Horse drawing done with Prismacolor softcore pencils and some white detail added with Golden Liquid Acrylics. Did a little light sanding to bring out the book page and finished with two coats of gloss fixative.

Artist Trading Cards - Part 2

After about 3 hours of selecting stocks, applying gesso, some black and some white, and trimming them all out. ONE DOWN, many more to go... This one took me about 45 minutes to complete. I would love to be able to complete one in about 30 minutes, one a day? Hummmm.... Nice goal to start with. That means, "I NEED MORE HORSE PHOTOS!" Well I am new to the blog scene and thought I would give it a whirl. I am hoping to be able to post new projects and ideas all related to horses. My main focus is color pencil artwork but I do have some fun projects in the works.
